Damask fabrics have been made for hundreds of years. The name comes from a city called Damascus.

Damascus was famous for making beautiful silky fabrics with special designs woven in. What makes damask special is the patterns seem to reverse on the fabric.

This is because of the way it's woven on a special loom that can lift and lower threads to create the designs. One side shows the pattern, flip it over and the background color becomes the pattern!
